About Cats About Town Society

How You Can Help C.A.T.S.

C.A.T.S. Foster Program

Our group has been active in the Sacramento area for about 9 years.  We incorporated under the name Cats About Town Society (C.A.T.S.) on March 19, 1998 so that we could pursue new sources of funding.

We are an all volunteer group with no paid staff.  We rely on a system of "Foster" homes to care for our rescued cats and kittens until they can be placed in permanent homes.  We also work with members of the public who are willing to continue to shelter and provide for their pets until they can be placed in new homes.  We provide FIV/FELV testing, spay/neuter, vaccinations and any necessary medical care to our rescued cats.  We do not, however, normally engage in heroic medical procedures, given our large volume of cats and limited funds.  Notable acceptances do occur, but
are funded by special donation drives.

We place 100's of cats and kittens in homes annually.  We offer a return warranty on all animals adopted through us, for the life of  that animal.  If the adoption does not work out, or the new owners circumstances change, we want the animal to come back to us rather than be placed in an unsuitable home, be abandoned, or taken to an animal shelter where it may be euthanized.  We also offer a health warranty for the first 10 days after adoption.  If an animal becomes ill during this period, for any reason except accidents, we will provide necessary medical care through one of vets that work with us, or reimburse the new owner, with prior approval from us, for their costs up to the amount that our vet would have charged.

We euthanize only when recommended by a licensed vet and when it is clearly in the best interests of the animal.  We also euthanize feral cats that test positive for FIV or FELV to prevent them from contaminating others and suffering a slow, painful death.

We are in need of volunteers in the following areas:

  • Foster homeless animals.
  • Work at adoption and special events.
  • Creating flyers, pamphlets, banners, etc.
  • Data entry and bookkeeping services.
  • Grooming services.
  • Fundraiser assistance.
  • Volunteer and animal transportation.

Your tax deductable donations are always needed to provide medical care for our animals.
